Goals for Private Pre-Kindergarten/VPK

 

These goals represent an overview of the social, emotional, physical and academic skills that we are teaching the children throughout this year. This list is not exhaustive, but a guide and we will ensure that we are using developmentally appropriate methods to complete these goals.

 

  • The teachers and staff will continue to help children learn social skills such as sharing and taking turns

  • The teachers and staff will provide a structured day with time for free choice activities

  • The teachers and staff will provide opportunities to allow children to increase their decision making skills

  • The teachers and staff will help children increase their large motor skills with outdoor play

  • The teachers and staff will have large group activities to help children with their listening and social skills

  • The teachers and staff will provide opportunities for children to increase their fine motor skills by cutting with scissors, drawing with markers, and using small manipulatives

  • The teachers, staff and librarian will conduct daily read alouds to help enrich students’ imagination

  • The teachers, staff, and librarian will help children learn about and explore books in order to create a love for books and reading

  • Children will be exposed to non-fiction reading to build background, vocabulary, and oral language

  • The teachers and staff will help children to learn the names of letters and the sounds connected to that letter

  • Children will work on properly forming letters 

  • The teachers and staff will help children to identify and write common sight words

  • Children will identify and write their own name in print

  • The teachers and staff will help children to add and subtract items in a group

  •  Children will recognize, name, sort, and compare shapes

  • The teachers and staff will help children to observe, classify, collect, and interpret data
